Different Times Call for Different Measures

Let’s Talk About It!

I’ve seen an increased focus in the last year on kids, parenting and bullying, basically everything that surrounds these issues and they are VERY important topics that I believe should be in the forefront for all of us because the world is definitely changing.

changingtimes

It’s so different now from when I grew up and I’m sure I’m dating myself some but I’m Ok with that.  The age of computers were just starting to come in when I was in high school but the internet and social media was not in full play until much later.  My experience in school was a really good one, as far as I knew I got along with everyone.  I was into sports, friends and fashion and they all dominated my life in a very positive way.

When I was a kid, we would go out in the morning and pretty much stay out all day without our parents worrying about us and would check in usually for meals and then back out again and we were always safe.  At school bullying wasn’t the epidemic it has become, the worst that could happen then was a fight between only two people or if someone really wanted to ruin you they wrote or carved something on the wall of a bathroom stall but no one had the stamina or interest to run all over the city doing it, it just wasn’t worth it.

The implementation of social media has both good and bad aspects and as much as it’s great that I can contact a friend halfway across the world without having to pay those ridiculous international phone call rates that there used to be, it also means that we all have access to anyone and everyone at any time and it’s really important to “Be Kind” as much as possible.  I’ve always tried to govern myself according to the “Do unto others” golden rule and to give people the benefit of the doubt but when I was watching a “Dr Phil” show the other day (parent/child relationship difficulties) he was referring to his new book “Life Code” which is “The New Rules for Winning in the New World”.  I am definitely going to get a copy of this book and knowing his work from previous books I’ve read I’m sure this particular advice and insight is something we can all benefit from no matter where we are in our lives.

What worked in the past no longer does because things have changed so rapidly and to such a degree that we have to educate ourselves to adapt to this new world, it is impossible for our old rules to apply.  The importance of this adaptation is imperative to all of those in our lives that we love and care for because everyone reacts differently to negative encounters and how it manifests in their lives are the signs that will alert us to their unhappiness.  With those that are closest to us there is also our own intuition that will likely be the 1st alert (the whisper) sign and one that you should never push aside.  We all have intuition, gut instinct, inner voice, however you want to refer to it but we inherently know when something is off with someone we love and care for and it is when that radar sounds that you need to start paying attention!

Like I said everyone reacts differently and that manifests in a variety of different ways, it’s just a matter of knowing your loved ones and we all do.  Communication is your best defence against the difficulties in life because most of the issues in the forefront these days can result in withdrawing from being present, insecurity and low self-esteem and I don’t think anyone wants to see that happen to someone they love.  It doesn’t take a lot to reach someone on a level that can open them up and it starts with honest, compassionate communication.

I hope everyone gets a copy of Dr. Phil’s new book because I think there are some very important life lessons inside that can teach us all to help ourselves and those we love to live happy and contented lives.

We matter and those we love matter.

As much as this new world is all too time consuming and demanding, we embarked on the journeys we are on to make better lives and we are depriving ourselves and those we love of that better life if we aren’t present in the moments that matter.

theres always a little

Change is Inevitable!

Let Go and Embrace It

Sometimes when we are forced into actions it’s because we should have found the way ourselves, sometimes when change occurs it’s because it’s long overdue, and sometimes we make the transition effortlessly.  Whichever way it happens is something that will be specific to each of us as individuals but the circumstances surrounding any change will be determined by either your resistance or acceptance.  I have travelled both paths at different times in my life and I can definitely say that acceptance is the easier of the two.  Resistance has always brought me disappointment, hurt, frustration and overall a heavy dose of unnecessary stress.  For some individuals change can be very challenging for reasons other than just resisting or accepting.

change

There are many reasons why we resist:

–          We think we know better

–          It’s unknown and we feel vulnerable and/or a little scared

–          Others are advising us to go that route

Of course the ego always thinks it knows better and it’s easy for you to convince yourself that you do know better, that ego is connected to you.  I’m not saying you have no idea what’s going on, I’m just saying that every time I’ve allowed my ego to run the show it hasn’t been a good idea because as much as the ego may think it knows better, ultimately it doesn’t.  The ego isn’t tapped into the same frequency as the universal mind so it can’t possibly know everything.

When things are unknown they can leave you feeling vulnerable and a little scared of what’s to come as well as hesitant to take that step forward.  When I’ve had this feeling it’s been because I was on the verge of experiencing a major change and positive growth that I couldn’t have possibly foreseen.  Every time so far it has been a positive step forward for me so I’ve learned to recognize when that moment comes around that I definitely want to go in that direction, experience has taught me that.

I don’t mind constructive criticism, it helps me to learn and grow as an individual but I don’t usually welcome being told what to do.  Somewhere in my psyche I find that in those times I become resistant because I feel pressured to go in the direction that someone is advising me.  Now that person may not actually be pressuring me but I may be receiving it that way and reacting because of that sense.  Some people will actually go in an entirely different direction simply because someone is advising them one way and even if they know it’s the right way to go they go in another direction because they are so resistant to the direction and/or assistance.

Regardless of what reasoning you have behind it chances are your resistance is causing you more stress overall than if you were to just let go and let things happen as they are meant to.

Change overall is the universe’s way of transitioning us into the direction we are meant to go and when you ignore the signs and resist the change you are only causing yourself more difficulty and stress.  When you are resisting change, the universe sometimes responds with a jolt in the direction you’re supposed to be going so if your life suddenly changes I believe it’s because you’ve been ignoring the signs for so long that this is the only way the universe can alert you.  Sometimes this alert can cause you to experience hurt emotions and I don’t believe that this is any sort of payback or karma, it’s just that if you get too far off your path there’s only one way for the universe to get you back on it in time.

Be mindful, stay aware and tuned in to what’s going on around you, pay attention to your path, the signs and those in your life.  We are all here to bring meaning to each other’s lives, teach, learn and grow.  Let your desires help lead you to your passion and purpose, don’t be in too much of a rush, it will find you when the time is right.

Things Aren’t Always What You Think

Are your Signs Getting Through?

Sometimes the signs aren’t always what we expect, or even how we expect them to materialize in front of us.  Sometimes the strangest occurrence is what makes the most sense later and I’ve always found that to be so odd when it happens to me.

Some of the biggest challenges I’ve had seemed so senseless at the beginning but have turned out to be the most valuable lessons and not one of them materialized in the form even close to what I had envisioned.  I believe the signs we receive are much like the old tale that everyone repeats about finding love.  It comes when you least expect it and it’s not at all what you had in your mind.

I think that sometimes the signs are repeated through various forms until we recognize them for what they are supposed to signify to us.  I’ve recognized that when it finally clicks for me in that moment and the sign (whichever way it came in this time) finally made it through to that part of me that says “aha!”.  I then realize and remember the previous times it came through and I didn’t catch it because it was either too subtle for me or I wasn’t open to receiving it in that way.

I think the biggest sign is the “pay attention now” sign that the universe supplies to us when we don’t listen or just can’t seem to get it.  It’s like a slap upside the head (metaphorically) that is meant to jerk you back to reality.  Depending where you are at in that moment could determine the severity of this sign but I believe it comes at a time when you are about to make a very bad decision that could be either severely disastrous or fatal.  Hopefully at that point you realize what has been staring you in the face all along because if you don’t this will continue to happen and that slap gets stronger and stronger until you become aware.  It’s better to notice much sooner than later, I’ve had a lesson repeat and it’s not fun, second time around was much more difficult than if I’d learned it right the first time.  Given the extent of the downtime for experiencing the lesson a second time around, I’m so glad I didn’t head for the third.

If you are running into a same issue or difficulty on a repeated basis within your life then you may be in this cycle.  Experiencing the same thing over was a big eye opener for me that ignoring something doesn’t make it go away quietly, it just hides it for a while, only to resurface until you find resolution and/or closure.  The outcome of that resolution or closure is something that will be a personal and reflective process specific to each of us and I believe we all go through it at one time or another in our life.

I do believe that “everything happens for a reason” and if I was meant to go through a specific lesson more than once then I believe it’s because it was necessary to my personal growth and development and would aid me later in life, that is my faith and what helps me to look at these lessons in a more positive and productive light.

I don’t have an “aha” moment every day but I’ve had more than one in my life so far and they are such monumental moments that I view them as blessings.  Blessings I hope for, look forward to, welcome openly and appreciate.

Signs Are All Around Us!

Pay Attention to Your Life

It’s amazing how many signs are actually around us on a daily basis that we miss.  Sometimes it’s because:

  1. We aren’t paying close enough attention to our lives
  2. The signs aren’t speaking loud enough for us
  3. We are ignoring them

Any one of these prevent us from experiencing what could potentially be an empowering personal growth opportunity.  These signs sometimes create those “aha” moments that we all seek,  those moments that lead us to a higher understanding and level.  I absolutely love those moments and I am constantly looking around for the greater reason behind all of my experiences in every part of my life because I know it’s there.  There are times when I am fully engaged and paying attention and still cannot see the signs.  Sometimes this is because I am too closely connected to any given situation to  have the clarity I need but I persevere because I am very committed to finding my reason for being.  I believe that in the grand scheme of things we are all connected to each other through a higher level, a higher sense of being, a higher power,  it’s just a matter of tapping into it.  Paying Attention!

Our inner voice is always whispering to us and when I don’t pay attention, I get a shove, not literally, but one that says “hey, start listening to me”.   I’ve had times when I really disregarded my inner voice and ended up in an emotional and/or physical state of being that could have been avoided if I had been paying attention to the signs within and around me.  Our inner voice, gut instinct, intuition, whatever you want to call it, is wise beyond what we can understand and every time I choose not to listen I get thumped!  It’s the equivalent of the “I told you so”, except there is no judgment and the consequence is already occurring.

If you have an undesirable scenario that keeps playing within your life like a broken record and you keep ending up in the same place then it may be time to step back and analyze that so you are able to find a more productive and positive outcome.

Knowing how far things can progress in a situation before clarity and insight can finally occur depends on each individual, how in tune they are with themselves and how devoted they really are to getting in touch with their reason for being.

Everyone has their daily routines but don’t go through them blindly, our lives aren’t just supposed to be existing, they should be a living experience.

  • Be fully engaged
  • Be committed
  • Be aware
  • Ask questions
  • Pay attention

Making the Connection

Finding the Path

We aren’t always open in the way we need to be to receive the signs or guidance we are seeking and of course that is because we can’t be in the same frame of mind all the time.  Our moods are tied to our emotional state and depending on what emotional state you are in it can determine whether or not you are open and able to make the connection.

I had a book that I bought quite a while before I finally read the whole thing.  I had started it but for some reason just couldn’t absorb any of it, after re-reading the first chapter three times I’d realized it just wasn’t the right time for me to read it.

After at least a year had passed I was looking for something to read, something that I could connect with and that would bring me the solace and understanding I was seeking at that time.  I picked this same book up again and read it cover to cover in a very short time and it contained all the answers to the questions that were currently on my mind.  What I could determine from this after was that the time before when I wanted to read it but couldn’t even remotely absorb it, I hadn’t been at the point of needing the information contained in this book.

We all have different phases in our lives when information given to us is received because it resonates with where we are at that moment.  If we aren’t on that conscious level then the signs or guidance can’t get in because we aren’t in alignment with them.  When I had picked up that book the second time it completely fit in with what I needed, which is why when I first tried to read it that it didn’t resonate because I hadn’t yet reached that point.

Not everyone is at the same point in their life at the same time, all the time.  So if you are wanting to share something that you find insightful with someone else it doesn’t mean they aren’t interested or don’t understand, it just means they either aren’t or haven’t reached a level in their life where what you find in alignment with your soul to be in alignment with theirs.

I believe in the divinity of this universe and when we are most in need of something that will calm or energize our spirit it is usually presented at the time when we are most open to acknowledging and receiving it.  If you’re not receiving a sign or guidance that you are asking for then it doesn’t mean that the universe isn’t listening, it means that you’re limiting yourself by looking in only one direction.

Signs don’t always come in the form we expect them to and sometimes in order to receive them you need to expand your awareness.  When a door closes, don’t just stare at it and believe that that’s it for you, turn around and keep looking for a window.  There is always a path to higher consciousness, it’s completely your choice on whether you want to step onto it.  Knowing how much control and power we actually have within our thoughts and imagination while on it, you can’t keep me off of it.  For me it’s the path to a much healthier and contented life, a life that I don’t want to live without.
