Just Say No!

The Dark Can’t Live in the Light

When it comes to relations with others it is the positive that is most enjoyed and of course the negative is not something you seek but sometimes what you fall into. No matter which of these that may occur in your life I believe that all relations can teach you something. In finding the lessons and/or wisdom you will end up gaining much more than you might initially think you’ve lost. I am well aware that toxic relations bring personal and emotional pain but through the havoc comes a greater desire for understanding and connection.

Negativity can be passed on through continued interaction and/or exposure to a negative and unhealthy energy, it’s a breed all on its own and these energy vampires can multiply over time. I don’t know that there is a fix-it solution or cure to rehabilitate negativity that has been conditioned over a long period of time but I wouldn’t say there is no chance because I think everyone has a shot at changing their life and behaviour around, it starts with the individual and what that personal choice in life is.

The dark can’t live in the light, negativity requires that others allow it, enable it, don’t question it but unfortunately that comes with a personal price. Your integrity, your soul, your sense of well-being is affected by your personal choices so it’s important not just for those you care about but for yourself to choose and follow your best life. Any or every time you make this compromise, even if it is for the sake of not ruffling any feathers, you are causing damage to your inner soul. When it comes to the times of processing your thoughts, sometimes at the end of the day or maybe in the silence, pay attention to how these choices affect your overall well-being, especially when you know deep down that you’ve made this kind of compromise?

what are you doing for others

Intention is everything and karma is the result and/or potential outcome of that intention. When you do something positive with the intention of creating good karma it won’t have that desired effect. When you do something positive with the intention of enriching the life of another without thought of karma, you are in effect at that moment creating good karma. Alternatively if you do something negative with the intention of hurting another you are also creating karma and it won’t be good. The wheel of karma is always spinning and your intention (good or bad) will always be connected to it.

The best actions are those inspired by good thoughts and the desire to elevate joy in the lives of others not for any other purpose but to bring happiness.

Sometimes in an effort to not be hurtful to another by being genuinely honest you end up extending your personal boundaries past your acceptable line, a line that will continue to recede until you stop it. Everyone’s boundaries matter and anyone who has respect for you and for themselves won’t attempt to push past those boundaries.

I can understand the emotions that motivate thoughts of revenge when something like this happens and as much as you might think you will enjoy it chances are you really won’t. Negativity’s only purpose is to consume, feed, destroy, control and contain your life lessons by derailing the positive. When you allow it, enable it or don’t question it you are willingly giving up your life lesson opportunities that are meant to help progress you to living your best life.

None of us are so great that we are above our life lessons, we are not above the challenges or the joys and when you try to prevent (enable) another from learning a hard life lesson, you aren’t doing that person or yourself any favors. You are preventing that person from experiencing life, we all have to feel everything, without it how would any of us develop genuine humanity.

If you have strong enough faith in the positive aspects and life force of the Universe you will find that they are working together to help you reach your goals. Things don’t happen instantaneously in any direction, everything is a process and takes time and as long as you can maintain enough patience to see yourself through then you can affect change.

You Are What You Think!

Be Aware of that Power

Your thoughts influence the direction your life takes and sometimes in the opposite way you may be expecting so be mindful and careful of what you think about most.

There are two ways I’ve learned that your thoughts can manifest in your life:

  • Thinking thoughts of hate towards another befits the quote below and can effectively end up being your fate instead of the object of your dislike. It’s what you give the most thought and energy to that manifests in your life so it’s very important to be mindful of what your thoughts are. In the event that someone does you wrong then trust that the Universe enacts whatever karma is appropriate when the time is right and the karmic lesson is most likely to be effective. If you are the one that has misconceived another then know that your karmic lesson will come at the time you are most open to understanding and learning it. Karma is not meant to hurt or destroy but rather teach and it is only when you are mindfully open that you will be able to receive the higher learning so you can personally grow.

anger

  • Alternatively thinking about something you want and wishing for the shortcut without consequence to how it may arrive can manifest in the worst way. For instance you could wish for a big sum of money to arrive and the next day find that a member of your family passed and left that sum of money for you but notice the price? Not every idea or quick shortcut in life is always a good one. My personal example that taught me this exact lesson on shortcuts came 3 days before my daughter was born very premature (3 ½ months to be exact). I saw a show on T.V. that was something out of the future I guess where a doctor was experimenting with re-creating the environment of the mother’s womb so he could watch and note all stages of development of babies prior to being born. It was like a test-tube baby idea but a larger version. The day after seeing this show I was at work, knowing how terrible my morning or shall I say all day sickness seemed be which wasn’t showing any signs of leaving as I approached 6 months of pregnancy and I told a co-worker about this show I saw and said “I wouldn’t mind that since I feel so nauseous all day long” and 3 days later my water broke.

I know now that my words didn’t actually affect what had transpired and that it was just part of the bigger picture but the experience of my daughter being born early and the challenges she and I have gone through together since have brought so much more to my life than I would have experienced had it not all occurred this way but at the time it scared me so much that it taught me to be more aware and cautious with my thoughts.

With the knowledge I’ve gained now I believe it was more signs and intuition to prepare me for what was coming and even though we don’t all know what is around the corner we all have some intuition (our inner voice) to help guide and ease us into times that may be difficult.

Even though I know that this experience wasn’t meant as “teaching me a lesson” or some sort of “karmic payback” for my thoughts I still think it’s an important example to express how much power lies with our thoughts whether they are conscious, subconscious, silly or hateful.

Thoughts are power! You have more power than you may realize with them and I used the power in my thoughts to help direct and focus on empowering the strength I knew my daughter had in her which I know helped her blast through the bleak outlook the doctors had advised. Obviously when babies are born too early they aren’t as strong and healthy as when born full-term so she needed all the extra powerful thoughts I and everyone else in her family could put forth for her.

With your thoughts you can change anything and when enforced with your will that there can be no other outcome there is no way any other alternative can manifest.

Know and Believe your thoughts are very powerful!

The Many Faces

What Human are You Being?

You have the opportunity to change the face you may have misrepresented during a bad moment through awareness, understanding, honesty and atonement but are you up to that task?

Do you have the personal honesty to acknowledge and take ownership of an action that that didn’t display the best side of you and the courage to admit a wrong?

They say “you never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression” but what about impressions that come along well after that? While you may have made a great 1st impression if you can’t keep the integrity flowing it’s going to be difficult and tiring just trying to keep up appearances.

How others treat you is their karma, how you react is yours – Wayne Dyerthoughts, word, actions

Your reaction to adversity is going to be the best look at who you are as a person for others and the best insight for you on how to change it. By developing your awareness through observation of your own reactions or overreactions you will learn how to control and prevent them from affecting your life negatively.

Allow the human and spirit that reside within you to commune often, it is very necessary and important to promote the growth of this bond. Their common ground will provide and enhance peace, balance and harmony within which is an essential part of your being.

Connection is not unique to one aspect of life it is the foundation of all aspects of life so that they can work together harmoniously. Connecting with others will help to build your relations with them into whatever direction you desire. Connecting with your spirit will enhance and empower your human life toward the destiny it has always been meant for.

Finding your way when you don’t know where to look or begin can be a daunting thought and I’ve found that it begins with connection:

Be Still:  Quieting the mind is the best way to find the answers you seek to specific issues or problems that arise in your life. There is a lot to be said for the quiet, it allows you to hear the solution more clearly than you would ever expect. It also allows your spirit and inner voice a platform to be heard, to be acknowledged and to be embraced. Your spirit has only one purpose and that is to guide you into your best life.

Be Alert:  Awareness of how you affect others is the spirit assistant in your life poking you in the side and saying “that’s not right!”, and being tuned into that is very important. When you open yourself up to that awareness you allow other emotions to feed and fuel your inner knowledge and outer behaviour so that the two can work together and balance each other so you don’t dip too far on the either side of the scale.

Be Conscious:  It’s really important to be present in the moments that matter. There’s no measurement of importance, if you can’t spare a moment of space for someone else then don’t pretend to. When you are consciously aware of your actions, overreactions or inactions I think you will find that you become more aware of how others respond and that awareness will ultimately change your interactions for a more positive trend.

You get in life what you prepare and make room for and there are internal and external aspects that can either enhance or inhibit the abundance you seek. You could end up blocking the space you created for your abundance just by having an attitude that isn’t in alignment with what you are making room for. It’s not just about making the room but also adapting your lifestyle and attitude to be consistent with what you envision.

If you are holding onto anything negative (anger, grudge, resentment, spite, etc.) they will all block that room from ever being filled with your dreams and the more you embrace them the further you get off your path until one day you find you don’t recognize where you are.

Success isn’t just about achieving something but achieving it with integrity and not stepping on anyone along the way. When I envision anything in my future it always contains a level of happiness, peace and balance but if my attitude now doesn’t contain those aspects then I won’t be in alignment for what I seek to come into my life until that changes. Karma has a way of balancing the scales.

Life at times can be difficult and there may be times where you end up blocking yourself simply because a day, week or month has worn itself on you for too long and brought you down but bringing yourself back to connection can lift the heaviness of that adversity and light the sky so you can see again where you need to be.

When You Know Better, You Do Better

Strengthening the Ground You Stand On!

This eye-opening phrase comes from Maya Angelou and I first heard it when watching an Oprah Winfrey show a few years ago and even though at the time I thought I understood the meaning it turns out it didn’t fully sink in until recently when watching one of Oprah’s Lifeclass segments where she really dug into it.

Even though all of her shows, master classes and now lifeclasses focus on life enrichment and enlightenment for the betterment of our inner spirits I have always found it amazing that she could interview anyone and I mean anyone, including those that have been negatively labelled by society. How does she do it without reservation or judgement with regard to the actions that have brought the negative labels attached to them? A lot of times we can end up judging another person based on what we’ve heard or seen of their actions but who are we to judge? I’m quite sure that no one is perfect, everyone has made a mistake at one time or another.

I have chastised myself for the times I’ve allowed others to take advantage of an aspect of my personality and what I finally got from this phrase was while it was not nice for someone to take advantage they were able to do so because I let them, now I know better. I can’t continually punish myself for the actions of someone else because I was hurt by it, all I can do is learn from it and strengthen my boundaries so it doesn’t happen again “When you know better, you do better”.

awakening

What an “aha” moment it was when I finally got this in its full context and along with it came the enlightenment that if someone hurt me in my past I can’t continue to judge them for it now or carry it into my future because I allowed it, I let it happen. I didn’t knowingly consent to it but I also didn’t object, I didn’t communicate my discontent and that’s on me. Just maybe, they didn’t know better or maybe they did but that doesn’t matter because all actions have karmic consequences doled out only by the Universe and if someone knowingly and/or willingly takes advantage of another it is not my karma, it is theirs.

Negative experiences usually cause internal emotional hurt and/or pain and we all deal with these kinds of experiences differently. Some act out aggressively to release it, some internalize and act out passive aggressively and some bottle it up. The best way to heal is to acknowledge the hurt, allow yourself to feel it so you can make peace with it, learn from it and only then can you truly move forward and release it.

Negative experiences can sometimes stall you in life and paralyze you from moving forward, keeping you in that time to remember it over and over again. Knowing and doing better because of it frees you.

I’ve made my own mistakes, I learned from most of them, sometimes I had to make them twice to learn but “when you know better, you do better”. I certainly don’t make the same mistakes anymore because now I know better and what I’ve now learned to consider is that maybe those who have caused me hurt in the past were acting out of their own pain. Embracing this philosophy has given me a heightened sense of awareness into myself and others and has shown me another level of the “judgement” lesson, I don’t think any of us ever have it all figured out. This “aha” realization has taught me the deeper meaning of empathy and its connection to all of our emotional challenges but in this case specifically judgement, which has allowed me to further my trust that the Universe takes care of us all in relation to the life we live and the seeds we sow.

Acknowledging Those that Make a Difference!

Ordinary People Who Are Extraordinary

Acknowledging those make a difference is not something we always remember these days, I think mostly because our lives are so full that when it does get to the end of the day we haven’t completed everything on our ever growing “To Do Lists” and it’s become too late to in the day to make that acknowledgement.

There is a commercial that came on at Christmas time this last year, it is a mother and her son wrapping little thank-you gifts, she gives some to her son to give out to whomever he chooses.  She is giving her son a GREAT gift by teaching him the beauty of appreciation and gratitude and the true spirit of Christmas.  The gifts are not extravagant (a small box of chocolates and bag of candy, etc), but thought (no matter what the gift) is still thought, and that in itself is significant.  He gives these gifts to the people you wouldn’t expect (not because they didn’t deserve it but because I think it is the Universe’s way of providing us all with a reminder not to overlook anyone), which given how busy most of are within our lives, makes sense.  He gave one to the man who cleans the ice at his local rink, one to the man who delivers the mail, I wish I could remember the rest of the people he gives them to but I think you get the idea.

extraordinary things

Of all the commercials I’ve seen, this one had a really great message to share and looking at life from that little boy’s perspective was a reminder well served for me.

I’ve experienced both sides of this action, I’ve been the one acknowledging someone’s contribution because it has inspired me and have also had someone acknowledge mine.  There is a benefit to both sides but sometimes I’ve felt like I’m the one who has benefitted more from acknowledging another person because the “state of gratitude” can feel intoxicating and if you are a sensitive person (which I am), then you may also feel the other person’s emotion as well, so it’s doubly intoxicating and kind of addictive.

I think that all of us enjoy being acknowledged and/or appreciated and even the simplest action can sometimes change a persons’ entire day.  Depending on the action it can possibly propel them into a direction that changes their entire outlook or life.

For those that want to create good karma in their lives, this is one of those ways that you create it but the intention MUST be pure.  You cannot be doing good deeds with the intention of creating good karma for yourself, it has to be good deeds with the intention of making another person’s life a little bit better, it’s those unintentional good deeds that lead to GREAT karma.

It’s important to honor, appreciate and have gratitude for the people in our lives that make a difference, no matter how big that difference is “every contribution counts”.  Sometimes it’s the little moments when nothing monumental is happening that have the most profound effects.

The one person that inspires me the absolute most is my daughter, she’s 14 today.  Happy Birthday Felicity!

Next time someone you cross paths with inspires you, let them know.

gratitude can transform

True Thoughtfulness Comes from the Heart!

Can you Spare the Time?

I don’t believe that true thoughtfulness comes from any other place than the unconditional love of the heart.  There is no room in there for selfish reasons or conditions to be placed on others as tools of control or manipulation.  If your intention is motivated by the desire to enrich another’s life, that is true thoughtfulness, if you are keeping score or reminding someone of your contributions, thoughtfulness is no longer what you can call it.

I believe that thoughtfulness is of close relation to karma but by thoughtful intention as well.  What I mean by this is that karma (in my mind) is a result of what you put out there is what comes back to you but the intention must be in alignment with true thoughtfulness.  If the intention for doing something nice for someone else is to reap the benefit of what comes back to you (the karma) then that is not true thoughtfulness but rather pre-meditated self-benefit.

If you are finding yourself in a state of anything other than true and selfless thought towards others than I believe you are denying yourself of the greater beauty to be experienced in life.  There may be a deeper rooted issue going on within that is keeping you in a state that does not allow you room for personal happiness, peace, balance or growth.moments-you-cant-put-into-words

I have witnessed and personally experienced true thoughtfulness from, for and with others and the expression and intention in that state of grace is magical, to say the least.  For me, that expression and the feeling associated is equivalent to the magnitude of a miracle.  I don’t mean that someone who is doing something selfless is doing something miraculous, I mean that the feeling for everyone involved is as momentous and significant as the feeling that could be associated with experiencing a miracle because it is a true, unconditional and selfless expression of love, whether that is family, friend or love relationships.

Living in a state of appreciation and gratitude is what inspires and motivates true thoughtfulness and I feel that we all have it at our inner core but for some, our life experiences, circumstances and choices can alter how that inner core is reflected outward.

One definite route to finding your way back to this state of appreciation and gratitude is to look outside yourself and those around you.  There are many people in all parts of the world that have had life experiences and circumstances that are far worse and they have either made the conscious choice not to allow it to change their core or they don’t know any other way of life but either choice is of benefit to their inner spirit because they are choosing the positive light.

When you are choosing the positive light you are also choosing to open yourself up for all things positive; abundance in all life and love experiences.  That is when you are most in alignment with the Law of Attraction and the energy needed to be in this alignment is much less than the energy needed to be out of this alignment.  Crazy how sometimes we just can’t see that, but it’s so true and when you let go and allow everything to just be as it will it all flows effortlessly and magically!

What’s Your Karma?

Cause and Effect

There are many different definitions and concepts surrounding “Karma” but the common thread seems to be that of “cause and effect” or better said “what goes around, comes around”.My belief about the meaning of Karma is that there are two parts to it:

1)      Intention – This does not mean doing random acts of kindness on purpose with the expectation that this will now create “good karma”.  It is simply doing random acts of kindness with the intention of generating a positive feeling in the recipient.  In my opinion it is the positive act with the only desired outcome being that you make someone’s day better that automatically generates the good karma.  The unintention within the intention.

2)      Reaction – One of my favorite quotes by Wayne Dyer that clearly expresses this;

“How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours.”

So true, and quite often reaction can be a very difficult emotion to control.  When others have treated me in a way that hurts or upsets me, my immediate reaction can be either to act out or shut down.  I’ve found that neither one of these have ever been a beneficial solution.I’ve had my own difficulties with trying not to let others words/ actions affect me and sometimes it can still be an ongoing battle but I’ve found that it depends on the state of being I’m in at the time an issue arises.  If I am in a place of feeling strong within my mind and soul then no one can affect me, however if I am in a less than strong position I will have a feud going on within me just to fend it off.  One of the quotes I constantly remind myself of when I’m in those less than strong positions that helps me find my way out is, of course, another Wayne Dyer quote:

“Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.”

It doesn’t always work for me at first but if I keep repeating it in my mind at some point it kicks in.  Along with that I will constantly ask myself “do I want to allow others to block my happiness or positive energy?” or “give someone else the power to change my future?”

Absolutely No Way!

I know that when I’ve let someone else’s behavior affect me I’ve noticed that it has a direct effect on all those around me, my entire day and every day after that until I stop letting it affect me.  It’s something I have to consciously choose to ward off and it can sometimes take all of my positive energy just to stay on the level but it’s a definite “have to” for me, and the most necessary step in maintaining my spirit.

I do have one aide that I use that helps to calm me internally when someone has affected me and it really does work.  I bought myself a clear crystal quartz that hangs on a nylon cord like a necklace and I wear it when I feel out of sorts.  Clear crystal quartz is said to have healing properties that cleanse away negativity, clear blockages and balance your crown chakra.  It’s called “the poor man’s diamond” because it’s so rich in every way except material value.

It’s been said that your karma follows you through each and every life until you’ve paid up the karmic debt that you’ve created.  I can’t say one way or the other on this statement as I would have to have data from not only mine but from others past and current lives.  I don’t know if that’s even a possibility to complete, at least not for me anyway.  I do believe in the statements of the karma coming with you through each life and the karmic debt being paid.  I think that anyone can turn their karma around as long as their intention is coming from an open and honest place.  Of course I don’t mean that by reaching an open and honest place that means that they are automatically paid up for any past transgressions.  I view it to be a process, somewhat like a 12-step program and that the person who has made this transformation within is usually eager to make amends and make up for any stress and/or hurt that they’ve caused.   It is through these positive desires that the karmic debt gets paid up, not just because they’ve made amends but because the intention is open and honest and their words/actions are consistent with that intention.
