Off the Beaten Path

Finding Your Way with Feeling

Have you at one time experienced the moment, day, week or month (hopefully not a year) of feeling lost without hope or options?  Most times feeling lost creates a sense of panic and the extent of that panic of course depends on how much of an over thinker you are.  Getting a hold of yourself and your thoughts to find the way out is your best and only option.

It is my sense that feeling lost is related to some sort of conflict that you feel overwhelmed, overpowered or minimized by.

Conflict itself is just your soul’s way of communicating to you that are off your path, that you aren’t where you are destined to be.  I think many of us get so caught up in the details of a conflict that we miss the lesson while heading toward our intended destiny.  I don’t mean exactly that certain people aren’t meant to cross and/or be in your life but rather that instead of focusing on the conflict try to figure out why it is there to begin with.  What or who are you really battling against?

Keep the bigger picture in mind when assessing conflict or issues of any kind, not everything is as negative as it seems to be.  Just maybe it is meant to propel you into a new direction, a direction you might not otherwise have discovered had you not been pushed.  Maybe it is connected to a quality or characteristic you need to develop to fit into the puzzle that is your future destiny.  I kind of see things in that perspective as each of my experiences pass and I have time to reflect on what the real purpose/lesson was.  I usually find that I have gained greater clarity and that what I’ve learned or developed as a result of the experience will help me going toward my purpose.  There are some that I had to repeat, I guess I just felt I knew better at times and how wrong I was and pained to have to go through one again but thankful at least that I could look back and make the connection changing it from the negative experience into a positive result.

Taking back the power, your power, that you’ve allowed the experience to take control of is your bridge to freedom.

It is my thought that the four elements to embracing this perspective, attitude and outlook are to focus on what you’ve gained instead of what was taken away and/or needed to be shed.

Intention:  When you go into any experience it isn’t likely that your intention is to falsely represent yourself, at least I hope not.  If your intention is pure and positive than it is important to include your intention as reference when you look back to assess what went wrong and why the outcome did not turn out as you had hoped.  Everything happens for a reason!

Receptive:  Are you receptive to the thoughts and opinions of others, not in the way of dismissing your own but open to meeting another’s actions, behaviours and opinions with love and acceptance?  Allowing them to be who they are without judgement or constraint?  By remaining receptive you show that you are considerate and respectful and not trying to force a response or outcome you want which in turn shows another how you also want to be treated.  We teach people how to treat us!

Abundance:  I used to associate abundance in a monetary sense very long ago and of course that was a very naïve assumption.  Abundance is present in so many areas of life and monetarily is actually the least valuable.  Abundance in love, respect and compassion towards yourself and for others are the highest of value and my most cherished.  You cannot buy any of these nor can you force them, they are most beautiful when given freely and without attachment.  The authentic moment is priceless!

Gratitude:  It’s important to have gratitude for even the difficulties as terrible as they are because it is both good and bad experiences that shape you into the person you become.  When I have experiences that don’t turn out the way I hoped I have always concluded that there must have been an aspect of myself I needed to grow or strengthen to better serve me in the future.  Becoming aware of each and every success or challenge that has changed something in me for the better is why I continue to keep this faith.  Even the small steps matter!

When you find yourself off the beaten path do whatever you need to rein yourself back in, look for your signs they truly are all around you trying to guide you back and remember:

  • Everything happens for a reason
  • We teach people how to treat us
  • The authentic moment is priceless
  • Even the small steps matter

Forge ahead with intention, change your negative experiences into positive, stay open and receptive to welcoming abundance in your life with a big dose of gratitude!

Choosing the Higher Ground

By Picking your Battles

I heard the phrase “picking your battles” years ago in relation to parenting and while you may have the best intention for wanting to guide your children towards their best life you can’t expect to bulldoze your way through without allowing their inner spirit to also have a voice.  In picking the battles that are the most important to you as well as allowing those that are the most important to your children it provides them with the understanding for the foundation of compromise through communication and balance in finding middle ground.

While I had initially become aware of this during my daughter’s younger years what I’ve realized is that this expression is not isolated to just parenting your child.  It transcends into all relationships and is an important reminder for us all when working through any kind of difficulty.

Sometimes the more empowering path you can take is to choose the higher ground even when you feel you are in the right.  Wayne Dyer referenced this quote by R.J. Palacio “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind”.  We should always be choosing kind, it’s not just about taking the moral high ground but also about embracing a little humility and grace for others along the way.  Sensitivity towards others even if it isn’t reciprocated is emancipation for your soul, a feeling you soon won’t forget and likely something you will want to repeat.

Forgiveness is a powerful thing, first for yourself and then for others.  Holding onto anger, resentment or bitterness damages more within you than against that which you despise, condemn or blame.

What has your disappointment cost you?

I think the best way to evaluate this is to look at how present a past experience is in your daily life, does it in any way inhabit your thoughts, words, behaviour or actions?  Is it preventing you from moving forward?  Is it influencing how you feel about yourself negatively?  Do you feel exhausted and drained so much so that you know your best option is to just put the baggage down and walk freely ahead?

What is your peace worth?

Peace of mind is not something you can buy but the value of your peace should be priceless!  It is only through letting go of that which no longer serves you that you find your peace.  Peace is whatever you define it to be for you whether that is harmony of the soul, freedom from disturbance or tranquility of the mind.  It is whatever resonates within that allows you complete relief from the burdens that have run you down and threaten your happiness in life.

What’s in your heart?

Stillness speaks volumes!  It’s so important to hear and heed the whispers, listen to what has been placed on your heart and you will find your passion and purpose.  No matter what that is, no matter how possible or impossible it seems, follow it.  Everything in us has been placed there for a reason, reasons you may not know yet but are meant to lead you into your best life.  Don’t challenge what you feel, embrace it.

What does your soul tell you?

While it’s important to follow your heart, it’s also important to listen to your soul, your inner voice, your gut instinct.  When you allow your heart (your emotion) to be heard and connect it with your soul (your inner voice) you become the spirit warrior you were meant to and everything that once felt like obstacles begin to fall away.  You allow yourself to live passionately which aligns you with your life’s purpose.  Don’t let yourself to settle for anything less!

Letting go to forgive, to heal, to move forward is for others but mostly for you, it allows you to accept and release yourself from the outcome you wanted and expected to see.

Raise yourself up and stand on the higher ground, some battles aren’t worth the fight especially if you lose something of yourself in it.  Return your power to where it belongs, with you!

You Want Something?

Then Go Get It!

In order to get something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done!  If there is something you want in life just wishing it was so isn’t enough.  You have to take action and do the work to attain it no matter how daunting things may seem at times.  Keep the faith, it’s usually the moment you decide to give up is right before the moment your dreams are to become a reality.

I know at times getting knocked down can be really discouraging but those are the times when you are truly being tested.  It is the time when your determination must be greater than your doubt, your passion too strong to allow for any other outcome.  Anything worth having, anything placed in your soul and your heart is worth fighting for even in the face of challenge.

Encouragement or discouragement can be the breaking point if you let it especially when time and patience are a requirement for your dream.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you what is not possible for you!  If you have a goal, a dream and you feel that when you share it with others they try to derail your plans and say it’s impossible then the solution is simple, only share your dreams with those who love and support your vision.  You need people around who motivate you not to give up, who remind you that you can do it, who dive into your vision with you and experience the glory of imagination and dream.

It doesn’t matter if you or anyone else may think on some level of “reality” that what you want is a pipe dream because I can assure you nothing is impossible for you!  The only time it becomes impossible is when you start to believe the naysayers, when you let the seeds of doubt creep in.  As long as you have passion to chase it with everything in you then impossible turns into I’m possible.

The world has become abundant with “instant gratification” in so many ways which has both good and bad sides to it.  I guess the upside is that you get something you want right away and you don’t have to wait but then how much do you value it, does it become a prized possession?  Likely not because prized possessions are usually something that you put blood, sweat and tears into which is why you cherish them.

So then the downside would be that you don’t appreciate what you’ve attained because it was too easy to get.  When you really have to work hard and wait for a dream to manifest you have no choice but to build your patience, for those of you that struggle with patience, like me, that is a task in itself.  When you do start to see things come to fruition it builds so much more; self-worth, self-esteem, pride, confidence, belief in yourself, inner strength and the list goes on.

When you’ve reached a goal or dream you tend to want to hold onto it more and not let it go, not gripping too tightly but in a treasured kind of way.  It becomes your personal badge of honor on your soul, not for others to be impressed by you but for you to feel proud of the commitment you nurtured into your reality.

If you feel there is something more you desire and you want more passion and purpose in your life start with where your heart goes when you let your mind wander.  The solutions lie within the stillness of your mind, in the quiet moments you hear the answers to your most pertinent questions.  You were not born to live a mediocre life, you are destined to live your best life!

Find your passion and it will lead you to your purpose!

Are You Listening to Me?

Let Your Soul Speak

Emotional growth and awareness is your personal manifestation of really listening to what your soul is trying to tell you. When you finally get in touch and/or alignment with your higher self you will find that the Universe responds in ways unknown to reality. Things begin to happen, move, progress in ways that are unexplainable but tangible to your life and spirit. It is only through this connection with your awareness which your true spirit inside inherently knows that you will begin to see miracles occur. Miracles unexplainable by anyone other than your inner spirit and the Universe, it is your acceptance of this inner peace and trust for “what will be, will be”. When you embrace that state wholeheartedly knowing that the Universe has a plan for you that is ultimately for your benefit, it is during that time of vulnerable trust that beautiful things can happen.

Your emotions are messages from your soul – Gary Zukav

Think about this for a minute and reflect with your own, we all have crazy emotions at times, I know mine can get away from me, overthinking things bigger than they are which just makes the emotion grow and of course making things seem worse. So if your emotions are messages from your soul, what are yours trying to tell you?

The only way to understand and learn from your emotions is to get in touch (connect) with where they are coming from, your soul. I don’t know why but at times it’s difficult to connect with your soul because life just overpowers it with all sorts of “get busy now” tasks that you rush around to complete just so you can finally take that moment for yourself, but it never happens does it? I know my life feels so busy that I think if I can just get all these things done I can have that moment and it never comes because it’s about creating the space for that moment instead of trying to fit it in.

I believe that statement from Gary Zukav that our emotions are trying to connect, I know mine are constantly trying to distract and deter me from my daily rituals so I can find the time to get in touch with the areas that I neglect and that really need my attention. It is your inner spirit, your soul, that feeds and nourishes your mind, body and spirit and when you get disconnected all sorts of havoc occurs. Your personal well-being suffers the most because it’s the most external (even though internal) and prominent way to get your attention, I know I never think of the neglect because I’m so engrossed in my stuff that the realization doesn’t occur to me. Obviously this doesn’t mean that real issues going on are just magically cleared up because you’ve connected with your soul but I do think that it will change the viewpoint you have, enough to allow you a better peace of mind with the situations that are difficult.  It’s so hard not to get caught up in trying to pursue that “better life” that sits at the end of that rainbow, the “if only” I get all this done then I can rest but that rest (that connection) is more important that you may realize. I myself am going to make my own personal resolution to start by taking 5 uninterrupted minutes of the day where I don’t think of anything that is needed from me that I have to do because it’s just as important for me as it is for you. It doesn’t matter what you do in those 5 minutes as long as you are allowing your silence to speak.

When you take these moments for yourself the bustle that you’ve been putting yourself through suddenly loses its momentum and as you continue to take these uninterrupted moments you will find that within that quiet time you find more answers and those answers reduce the hectic schedule because it becomes like a moment of brainstorm. The answers you strive to seek are there “in the stillness” and those answers not only diminish the bustle but lead you in a different direction, one that is much more beneficial for your soul.

Creating those moments helps you find your soul, your true self and your inner awareness and wisdom and from all of those I believe will lead you to your purpose and your higher calling. That discovery is the beginning of an ease and peace of mind, state and soul that allows your spirit to soar.
