Moving On

For anyone who has been unable to let go and forgive this is a very insightful and enlightening post that can be life-changing!

Here we are again at the dawn of a New Year.  I see people scurrying around making plans for a party, a celebration, a gathering, or just planning a quiet evening at home.  Whatever you are doing this New Year, take time to release old resentments and old pain.  It is a great time of year to forgive, really forgive….including yourself.

Who among us has not righteously held onto ill feelings that we feel are justified towards others because of “what they did” to use or what we PERCEIVED they did to us.  I just finished a novel in which a dreadful cascade of events unfurled because of a misperceived action.  The female lead in the novel felt she had been unjustly treated but in the end, she so foolishly misread the event that it led to some sad and tragic events in her efforts to seek revenge for an…

Finding Yourself First!

May Help You Find Your Direction in Life

It’s hard to know what you want out of life or what you’re looking for when you haven’t fully figured out who YOU are.  It’s taken me a long time to really realize my direction in life and to become aware of some of the reasons behind some of my choices.  I’ve made wrong turns because I wasn’t fully aware of my real motivations and underlying needs and even though I had thought I’d gone in a specific direction for a specific reason, I had discovered later that I was compromising one need to meet or maintain another.  The biggest “aha” was that I wasn’t even aware that I was doing this or what my real needs and/or desires were because I was too distracted in every area of my life to realize that I didn’t know who I really was.  I had normalized in my mind that having every moment of my day spoken for meant that I was getting things done and fulfilling the normal life plan, at least that was my misguided understanding.  We’re not all built the same so why would there be a “one size fits all” life plan that everyone conforms to, the life plan itself should conform to each individual and I don’t believe that everyone gains happiness, peace and balance from travelling the same path.

finding your way

I have come to these realizations at various times over the last five years because I’ve been interested In the bigger picture and wanted to find the root of why I kept ending up in similar life scenarios whether that was within family, friend or intimate relationships.  You know, if I keep doing things the same way I shouldn’t be expecting different results just because my intentions or awareness has changed or grown.  No doubt there will be many more of these realizations to come as I have more chapters of my life to fill and from what I’ve learned so far this leads me to believe that this enlightenment has only just begun.

I think that when you get “stuck” in certain areas of your life it’s because there is something bigger that is holding you back and when you start to rewind and replay those that didn’t go as you’d hoped, you will likely find the pattern that is keeping you “stuck”.  Recognizing and becoming aware of the patterns that you’ve repeated can be the first step in turning your entire life around because once you’ve brought yourself awareness it will help you to create a new pattern.  When you change things up this way you will find yourself in very new and very unfamiliar territory.  When I started to recognize and slowly change those areas of my conditioning I found at first, that it felt a little weird, but in a good way.  The main thing I noticed is that I’d eliminated the self-doubt and replaced it with a stronger sense of self-guidance.

Of course all changes we make to improve our lives will have a transition period and uncertainty can usually be expected but as long as you listen to your heart and follow your gut instinct I don’t believe you will end up on the wrong path.  Acknowledging how things make you feel along the way and allowing yourself the freedom to step outside of your comfort zone to explore areas of life that you had never thought to try will help to ease the transitions and reduce the fears.

No matter what path you take or process you use to learn more about who YOU are, it’s that awareness that will help you to gain a greater understanding and contentment overall.

Change is Inevitable!

Let Go and Embrace It

Sometimes when we are forced into actions it’s because we should have found the way ourselves, sometimes when change occurs it’s because it’s long overdue, and sometimes we make the transition effortlessly.  Whichever way it happens is something that will be specific to each of us as individuals but the circumstances surrounding any change will be determined by either your resistance or acceptance.  I have travelled both paths at different times in my life and I can definitely say that acceptance is the easier of the two.  Resistance has always brought me disappointment, hurt, frustration and overall a heavy dose of unnecessary stress.  For some individuals change can be very challenging for reasons other than just resisting or accepting.

change

There are many reasons why we resist:

–          We think we know better

–          It’s unknown and we feel vulnerable and/or a little scared

–          Others are advising us to go that route

Of course the ego always thinks it knows better and it’s easy for you to convince yourself that you do know better, that ego is connected to you.  I’m not saying you have no idea what’s going on, I’m just saying that every time I’ve allowed my ego to run the show it hasn’t been a good idea because as much as the ego may think it knows better, ultimately it doesn’t.  The ego isn’t tapped into the same frequency as the universal mind so it can’t possibly know everything.

When things are unknown they can leave you feeling vulnerable and a little scared of what’s to come as well as hesitant to take that step forward.  When I’ve had this feeling it’s been because I was on the verge of experiencing a major change and positive growth that I couldn’t have possibly foreseen.  Every time so far it has been a positive step forward for me so I’ve learned to recognize when that moment comes around that I definitely want to go in that direction, experience has taught me that.

I don’t mind constructive criticism, it helps me to learn and grow as an individual but I don’t usually welcome being told what to do.  Somewhere in my psyche I find that in those times I become resistant because I feel pressured to go in the direction that someone is advising me.  Now that person may not actually be pressuring me but I may be receiving it that way and reacting because of that sense.  Some people will actually go in an entirely different direction simply because someone is advising them one way and even if they know it’s the right way to go they go in another direction because they are so resistant to the direction and/or assistance.

Regardless of what reasoning you have behind it chances are your resistance is causing you more stress overall than if you were to just let go and let things happen as they are meant to.

Change overall is the universe’s way of transitioning us into the direction we are meant to go and when you ignore the signs and resist the change you are only causing yourself more difficulty and stress.  When you are resisting change, the universe sometimes responds with a jolt in the direction you’re supposed to be going so if your life suddenly changes I believe it’s because you’ve been ignoring the signs for so long that this is the only way the universe can alert you.  Sometimes this alert can cause you to experience hurt emotions and I don’t believe that this is any sort of payback or karma, it’s just that if you get too far off your path there’s only one way for the universe to get you back on it in time.

Be mindful, stay aware and tuned in to what’s going on around you, pay attention to your path, the signs and those in your life.  We are all here to bring meaning to each other’s lives, teach, learn and grow.  Let your desires help lead you to your passion and purpose, don’t be in too much of a rush, it will find you when the time is right.

Awareness is Power!

Breaking down the Walls

There are many inspirational, motivational and spiritual teachers out there that are available to all of us, all the time.  They help us through their teachings, insight and universal wisdom and it’s as easy as picking up a book or surfing the internet but in order to absorb this wisdom you need to be open to receive it.  I believe that depending on where we are at within our lives whether that is age, awareness or state of mind, it can determine how willing or open we are.  For example, when I was in my 20’s I wasn’t aware of anything related to personal growth or life’s lessons, not because I was close minded but because the thoughts never even occurred.  My life revolved around playing sports, having fun with friends and shopping, I didn’t start to develop awareness until my 30’s and from that awareness came a desire to discover who I was, what I wanted, where I was going and what it all meant.

I discovered that my connections with some of the people in my life began to transition to a deeper level and that I was drawn to certain individuals because they had a brighter and positive perspective, outlook and attitude.  The transition to my new awareness was seamless and flowed naturally because I was more than willing to embrace it and in turn it enabled me to develop a heightened sense of intuition.  I didn’t struggle with not understanding what was going on within or feeling like I was in some sort of limbo so it was hard for me to relate to those that did but somewhere in between I began to realize that none of us do anything the exact same way as the other.  That is our individual and unique quality, it defines and differenciates us from one another and is to be respected.

We don’t develop, learn or find our path in the same time frame and shouldn’t be expected to or be judged for it one way or the other.  No matter what stage you are at with starting to develop your awareness or just desiring it, it doesn’t matter because at least you’re aware and that’s the beginning.

The road to self-discovery isn’t always easy, everyone has an off day every now and then but if you are having more than one of these days for longer periods of time, then there may be something more going on beneath the surface that would be beneficial for you to learn what the root is.  Downtime that goes on for too long is an indication that there is something deeper affecting you and chances are if you are experiencing this then you are also frustrated, may have a deep sense of sadness and/or feel alone.  This is your inner voice signaling to you and letting you know that your current process needs to change because you don’t need or deserve to feel this way.  It’s important that you listen to your inner voice, it is in alignment with your inner spirit and knows when something is off even if you aren’t fully aware of it yet.   I didn’t always listen to mine when I should have and found that some areas of this process took me longer to reach enlightenment than necessary and because of that I was very hard on myself.  That’s a natural response but of course knowing that doesn’t make it any easier to take although it did help me to lighten the blame I sometimes placed on myself.

If there is something you’re having a difficult time with, don’t judge yourself too harshly, allow yourself the time you need to learn and the time you need to heal when you experience a setback.  If something has you down for too long do what is necessary to prevent yourself from staying in a perpetual state of unhappiness.  We are all here for a reason and I believe it is to live the best life we can.

breaking down the wall

My favorite and most inspiring teacher/mentor is Dr. Wayne Dyer, I have learned so many new ways of thought process from him and just the other day his PBS Special “Wishes Fulfilled” was on and even though I have seen it, I watched it again.  One of the many things that he spoke of during this special was something that everyone can try tonight and every night before you go to sleep that will improve your quality of life going forward.  I have quoted some dialogue from his special below:

Job 33-15-16

“In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men while slumbering in their beds, then He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction.”

Your subconscious mind is most comfortable when you are unconscious.  You are unconscious when you are in your sleep state and in your sleep state your subconscious state is busy at work and it’s the last 5 minutes of your day that are so important.  When you are in that state between being awake and getting drowsy and going to sleep and you are going to marinate for the next 8 hours in your unconscious subconscious mind.  When you’re preparing your marinade, the question is “how do you want to prepare yourself for having your instructions sealed?”  Most people use the last 5 minutes of their day to review all the things that they don’t like, and all of the things that didn’t work, and all of the people that hurt their feelings, and all of the stuff that is going on in their life that they wish weren’t happening, this is their worry time.  This is the time when you fill your mind with all of the stuff and then you go off into sleep and he opens your ears and seals your instructions while you are slumbering. What you want to do is reverse this practice because your subconscious mind is listening to how you are asking the universe to provide for you what it is that you would like to attract or manifest into your life and if you fill your subconscious mind with all the things you don’t want, don’t like, that make you unhappy, that make you depressed, that make you worry.  Then your subconscious mind, which is impersonal, and can’t make a distinction between what it is that you are feeling as a result of what you place into your mind or what is actually happening in your life.  It doesn’t distinguish one from the other, it is just open to suggestion, and here you are suggesting to your subconscious mind all the things you don’t want.  What would you rather have sealed before you drift off to sleep “I am unhappy” or “I am happy”?

It was amazing to me the first time I saw this special and this particular piece was such an eye-opener to me.  I’ve done this before falling asleep, reviewed my day, thought about the things that bothered me in depth and then fallen asleep with those thoughts.  I hadn’t realized that one little adjustment to that could make such a huge difference in aligning me with a happier and healthier state of mind and being.

So tonight when you are in those moments before you are drifting off to sleep, let your imagination of hopes and dreams have the chance to run free.  Think about all the beautiful and positive things you dreamed of as a child for what you wished for in your life and let that marinate overnight.  I think you will have a different sense of self-direction and state of mind the next morning.

Every Journey Has a Purpose

Are You on the Right Path?

We have all been given what we need to help us get through the challenges we are meant to face.  That help is available to you all the time because it is within you but sometimes it’s difficult to tap into it, especially when negativity has you in its grip.  If you are feeling low, unworthy or disappointed within any area of your life, you have the power to change it.  The big question is “are you going to” or is it easier to place blame and say that’s why it’s not going to change.  Regardless of whether or not you have found your purpose or feel that there is a purpose for you in this life, Pastor Joel Osteen has the real deal on this, his quote below:

If you are breathing, God has a purpose for you.  As long as you have breath, somebody needs what you have, somebody needs your gifts, somebody needs your time, somebody needs your love.

His words are very true, we are all here to learn, teach and grow from every experience and obviously if we grow positively, that is ideal.  It’s not about that fact that you stumbled or fell, it’s how you got up and what you did to move forward while maintaining a little grace and dignity along the way.

If you haven’t found your purpose or passion yet it’s doesn’t mean you don’t have one, it just means you haven’t come to the place in your life yet where all that needs to be aligned for it to occur is fully aligned yet.  With every challenge or lesson I experience I always know that there is a greater purpose for it and even though I don’t know what the greater purpose is yet I know that I have enough faith to believe that it will work out as it is meant to and in the right time.  I know it can be really difficult to wait it out but I am not on my own clock for my intended lessons, it is the universe that will decide when the time is right so there is no point in my stressing about it or resisting.  One of your biggest assets in times like these is having faith and trusting in that faith.

Changing the conversations and internal dialogue that you have with yourself is another one of your assets.  It’s amazing how different your life can be if you start to believe in yourself, others will follow and believe in you too.  Instead of feeding the voice of negativity, the one that tells you that you aren’t worthy, intelligent, beautiful, abundant and so on, feed the voice of the positive.  The Universe responds to whatever you are telling yourself whether that is negative or positive.  Start telling yourself how lucky and blessed you are, live, breathe and feel the emotions attached to those statements and you will find that you will start to see great things develop in your life.

The biggest hurdle you will have is at the beginning because it starts with acknowledgement and awareness and changing and expanding those two require a lot of discipline.  If you’ve had significant difficulties in your life so far, the first thing you can acknowledge is that regardless of how challenging or disheartening they may have been, you made it through it.  That’s a huge accomplishment and not one that should be ignored or pushed aside.  Don’t put the emphasis on how awful it was, put the emphasis on how impressive it is that you came out with more wisdom then you went in with.  My other favorite quote is from Wayne Dyer:

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

This is a great example of how changing your focus can put the right emphasis on the challenges you’ve had so far and when you do that it will also de-emphasize the severity of the negative thoughts that you may be replaying in your mind.  It will also reinforce your feelings of empowerment, pride and self-respect and that is the beginning of the new and improved path.

Your internal dialogue is the most prominent voice in your life, whether it is subconsciously or consciously fueling your thoughts of self-worth.  The best change you can make in your life is to use this internal dialogue in a positive and productive way for yourself so that you can live your best life.

One of the biggest changes I’ve made that always turns out to be the best decision is stepping out of my comfort zone and choosing the road I am scared to travel.  I think sometimes we need to take risks and scare ourselves, it is within those risks that we experience the most personal growth and achievement, at least it has been for me.

Happiness – Does it Define Your Real Age?

Good Relationships, Good Health

I love this concept!  I believe, if you have happy and healthy relationships you are likely to feel much more energized and inspired which will be reflected in your overall health and appearance.  What you exude (negative or positive) will be clearly displayed in your interactions with others and I believe that affects how we age.  I’ve known people that have physically looked younger or older than they actually are and I’ve noticed that the common thread amongst those that looked younger is they all have some form (if not many) of positive output, a happiness within one or many areas of their life.   It is the same for those that look older except that the output is negative and also in one or many areas of their life.  Both states of being have a distinctive effect on your overall appearance and that can change the perception of your biological age to either end of the scale.  In a world where we are encouraged to strive to maintain a healthy and youthful appearance, this to me would be the least invasive on our wallets and our health.  I don’t believe in any way that it’s necessary to alter our real selves to meet any standard other than what you yourself desire and makes you feel good.  I do believe that if you’re not happy within it won’t matter how much you alter on the outside because the two won’t match and any inner conflict will still be there.

When we are either happy or sad it affects our health, sometimes mildly, sometimes in a more significant way.  I’m rarely negative, it just doesn’t fit and I can’t adapt to it, but on the days when I’m feeling low I find that the mirror isn’t as friendly and the reflection seems a little older than the days when I’m feeling happier, positive and upbeat.

It’s been said that our kids keep us young and I think that’s because even though they drain us (physically or emotionally) from time to time they are still little gifts of inspiration that we have been blessed with.  So along that same line, our friends and relationships can also help to keep us younger but I do believe that those relationships need to be healthy and equal.  Not everyone around me is a perfect fit for me but the ones that matter the most are and they are the ones that fuel my inspiration, hope and faith.

In turn when you are the one fueling others inspiration, hope and faith you will also benefit because the feelings that you are creating in others are also created within you which then stimulates your inner happiness, it’s like a massage from the inside out and it gets all the juices flowing.  That increase elevates your energy and mood and when you’re feeling good, you look good.

Check out this definition I googled for Happiness (Number 3), unbeknownst to me at that time, when my daughter was born I named her Felicity.  She’s definitely plays the most prominent role in my happiness!

Definition of HAPPINESS:

  1. Good fortune – obsolete, prosperity.
  2. Joy, a state of well-being or contentment, a pleasurable or happy experience.
  3. Felicity, Aptness

So if you are a good friend to others and generate an overall positive attitude you are likely to have an overall younger appearance, in my opinion that’s a great anti-aging solution.

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall

Are You a Shallow Hal with Yourself?

I liked this movie “Shallow Hal” because it’s actually a really good portrayal of how skewed a lot of us are when we look in the mirror at ourselves and how we sometimes view others.

There is so much more to see in yourself and others than just the surface of those you don’t know.  Have you ever noticed when you develop a relationship with someone (friends or love) that you begin to see beauty emanate from within them, and if it’s a solid and equal relationship than that is also what the other person sees in you.  If we could only see ourselves through the eyes of someone who views us that way we would probably be able to develop a much healthier relationship with our own personal image and truth.

I believe it all starts with being comfortable and embracing “the real you”, I mean why would you try to be anyone else when you can be yourself?  No one can be you better than you can, and when you’re being genuine chances are you’ll have more people interested to be in your company than you would being someone you’re not.

It really does begin with you and how you are viewing yourself and if you are you confident with “the real you” then nothing else can disturb that.  Of course, we are the harshest critics of ourselves, but if you can alter that and try to see yourself as those who love you see you than you will develop a strength of character that you had never realized was there.

One of the things I believe very strongly is that our minds are more powerful than we have even tapped.  I’ve heard it said that we only use 10% of our minds, 10%!  That’s crazy!  I’ve also heard that be discounted but regardless of whether the statement is true or not, it’s something worth considering.

So if you entertain that thought for a moment and consider what some of the greatest minds have accomplished, and if they are actually using only 10% of their brain then imagine if you bump that up to even 50 or 60% how much you could change in your world and way of thinking.  In books like “The Secret”, and movie/documentary of “What the Bleep do we Know?”, these kinds of thoughts and ideas are welcomed, embraced and explored.  If the concept is there I want to explore it, and if I find it to work (which I have) then it’s entirely worth it.

Have you ever wanted something to change so badly that you willed it to change?  That’s your mind working at whatever percentage is needed to accomplish what you’ve envisioned.  It’s what you feed that grows, make it positive!

Everything we have around us (things, items) all began with a thought, an idea, and then became real.  Probably even some of the craziest thoughts or ideas that materialized were discounted from the beginning but because of the belief and persistence of the person that envisioned it, it became real.  I believe that no matter what you envision you can create it, your mind is powerful enough to make it happen.

Believe in the strength and power of your mind and your visions and your reality will become what you see.  When you are confident, comfortable and accepting with “the real you”, you allow yourself endless possibilities to create the world you desire.

It’s a flow of positive energy that can’t be stopped, it’s an energy that is in alignment with the Law of Attraction and that all things you think about and believe will become that world around you.

I Appreciate It!

Be Thankful in All Things!

When you have appreciation for all things in your life I believe that creates a trickle effect and the positive occurrences continue throughout your day as your appreciation grows.

So you wake up a little late but luckily it’s a good hair day, the outfit you picked out feels perfectly comfortable and even though you didn’t have enough time to fix yourself a morning snack things are going good.  On your way to work every light is green so you arrive 10 minutes early and when you get there you find that your boss brought in coffee and muffins for everyone.  Perfect, morning snack problem solved!  I’ve had this kind of day and it’s only gotten better from there and I really do believe it’s because I am able to get so excited about the little things.  I’ve found that when I approach life from that mindset great things just keep happening.  Others have told me that I just have “good luck” and even though that is probably part of it I think the other part is the mindset.  It’s all in what you believe and how you perceive your life to be going.  I also believe I have “good luck” and that belief helps to create that good luck and keep it flowing (Law of Attraction).

Have you ever been driving down the road toward the green light and thinking it’s going to change and then it does, I know that’s a chance thing but I do think it’s also a belief thing, try saying out loud to the universe “thank you for not changing until I get through”.

Every time I’ve headed off to the grocery store, shopping mall or anywhere that requires parking I always head to the spots closest to the store and much to the chagrin of my passenger who says “it’s packed, you’re never going to find a spot up there” and I always respond “my parking spot is always at the front”, and it always goes just that way.  I will get there and the spot will be free or someone will just be pulling out and it’s not just because I’m lucky but because I’m already appreciating the universe for providing me with that great parking spot I’m envisioning.  I’ve been successful with this process even at Christmas (the busiest of seasons), the biggest part of it is living in appreciation and thanking the universe for these wonderful and lucky opportunities.

So I tried to explain this mindset to a friend who said, ok, I’ll try it, but I don’t think it’s going to change anything.  Right there!  That’s it!  You’ve just cut it off from having the chance to happen.  If you don’t honestly believe in the mindset and you’re already knocking it down with a “sure I’ll try it but I don’t believe it will work” then the universe will give you exactly what you believe!  Again, Law of Attraction.

I truly find excitement in the smallest things and I realize that finding a great parking spot or the perfect tasting coffee is so minimal and trivial but in reality if I can find excitement and appreciation in those then the bigger things will be that much better and I will be that much more excited and appreciative.  The outcomes for these types of positive experiences I’ve had, big or small, have taught me that this mindset definitely works.

Along with developing and believing wholeheartedly in this mindset, you must also believe it in your subconscious and it has to feel natural.  An example is the friend I tried to explain the mindset to above, the reason it was so difficult to accept is because changing the belief system that way didn’t at all feel natural.  I really wish I had a strategy I could recommend that would work for making this kind of adjustment to your belief system and having it feel natural.  There was no adjustment for me to make as I’ve always viewed things from this perspective and mindset so natural is how it has always felt.

I do know that when it comes to anything in your life and making changes it all starts with you:

–          you really have to want it

–          you really have to believe in yourself

–          live in appreciation

When you have all of these beliefs you can do anything you want to!

What’s On Your Mind?

Even if you Can’t See your Life Plan, It’s there!

We all have a life plan that has already been determined, it is called Destiny and I believe in it!  The reason our lives are referred to as a journey is because we are meant to discover and find our way towards it and if it was revealed to us too soon how would we go through all the challenges, tests and lessons that are meant to shape us into the person we are meant to be to fulfill that destiny?  Sure it would definitely be comforting and convenient to know what’s at the finish line, but learning to navigate your way on your own will build a reserve of strength and character that you may not have realized had you not had to rely on that faith.

What’s in your head can either help or hinder your journey, what are your thoughts about yourself and where you’re going on a daily basis?  What do you think of yourself, really?  What do you think of others?  Do you believe that you are worthy of all this life has to offer you?  What you tell yourself through your thoughts is very powerful whether you realize it or not and the most empowering words you can apply to all your phrases about yourself begin with “I Am”.  It’s a challenge at the beginning to incorporate this “I Am” ritual into your mindset but it’s well worth it and can be life changing.

–          I Am Healthy

–          I Am Worthy

–          I Am Happy

–          I Am Capable

There are so many “I Am” rituals to choose from that you can apply to your life and it really is all about you, the “I Am” thoughts need to be specific to you, whatever you want to attract into your life begins with changing that mindset.

I’ve been at work, been really tired, thinking “I Am” so tired and feeling even more tired because I’ve reinforced and enabled that mindset with my thoughts.  Now obviously if had only 2-3 hours of sleep, for whatever reason, and have to report to my daily grind, it’s definitely difficult to change that around with a thought, but I have been successful at it, although I didn’t realize it at the time.  I was thinking ahead to when it would get to the last hour of the work day and how great that was going to feel, somehow that created and energy that took me out of that really tired place.  Everyone is different so you just need to find a mindset alteration technique that works for you or one that works for someone you know and tweak it specifically to you.

When you allow your life to flow as it is naturally meant to, which I’ve done, not every single minute we all have our moments, but when I remain aware and cognizant of what my body is telling me and when I step out of that field of good energy it’s a matter of hitting the reset button on my mindset.

Create an “I Am” ritual for yourself, something specifically designed for you and where you want your life to go, what you want to experience along the way, what you envision as the final destination and always, always live in appreciation for every lesson, difficult or not, because they are all a part of the journey.
