Welcome 2013 – Happy New Year!

Out with the Old, In with the New

2013The New Year of 2013 is now here and I always feel the same level of excitement at the beginning of every new year because of all the possibilities, opportunities and energy that is in the air.  I know I said last year that I felt 2012 was going to be a good year for everyone but that feeling has developed to an even stronger level for 2013.  I’ve learned to “just go with my feelings” when I get them because eventually the reality becomes clear, not when I think it should but when the timing is finally right.

I had a lot of transitional change and growth throughout the year of 2012, maybe not everyone had experienced or felt this but I did.  I say transitional because the changes were not sudden, I finally began to see things from a perspective that has allowed me to accept things that just aren’t meant to be any different than they are.  It was another year of reflection, realization and learning and honestly I am really enjoying the liberation and freedom those thought processes bring.  Especially at the end of the year because not only am I looking ahead but I’m reflecting back to see how much farther I’ve come.  I don’t ever want to stop learning or challenging myself because that is what inspires me to keep pushing myself on to the next level.

Last year helped me to better define my focus of what I envision for my future and that focus has strengthened not only my determination and perseverance but it has helped me to develop a more guided sense of discipline.  I wouldn’t say that I never had these qualities it’s just that when I was in my 20’s I didn’t have a direction or focus that required them so they were relatively unused.  I don’t think that we really discover who we are or what we are made of until we have to, out of necessity.

something wonderfulThis is the best time of the year to let go of all that has held you back, wipe the slate clean and start fresh so that you can embrace, welcome and live your best life.  Sometimes when something ends it isn’t because you are meant to hurt or feel sad but rather to make room for what is just around the corner and your hands and heart need to be open to accept and embrace it and more often than not, it’s something better.

This year I have resolutions that are an extension of last year’s because thanks to my reinforced discipline they will now continue on as a pattern rather than a resolution.  I have many new dreams that I want to accomplish and an abundance of energy that is going to support, motivate and carry me through.

I know it’s easy to make the plans and I think in some of my past years I either used to make them too far in advance or I would lose my motivation and then I’d say “I’ll do it next year”.  I know all too well how easily that can happen but I can assure you that there is a great deal of pride and sense of accomplishment when you stay the course you’ve set out on.

Whether you make resolutions or not I believe that the time of the year that has the strongest energy is at the beginning and if there is something you want to change or accomplish now is the time to initiate it.  The energy circling through the universe at this time is magical, full of hopes and dreams, use it to your best advantage!

Happy New Year!   I wish you all a Safe, Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2013.

happy new year

Change is Inevitable!

Let Go and Embrace It

Sometimes when we are forced into actions it’s because we should have found the way ourselves, sometimes when change occurs it’s because it’s long overdue, and sometimes we make the transition effortlessly.  Whichever way it happens is something that will be specific to each of us as individuals but the circumstances surrounding any change will be determined by either your resistance or acceptance.  I have travelled both paths at different times in my life and I can definitely say that acceptance is the easier of the two.  Resistance has always brought me disappointment, hurt, frustration and overall a heavy dose of unnecessary stress.  For some individuals change can be very challenging for reasons other than just resisting or accepting.

change

There are many reasons why we resist:

–          We think we know better

–          It’s unknown and we feel vulnerable and/or a little scared

–          Others are advising us to go that route

Of course the ego always thinks it knows better and it’s easy for you to convince yourself that you do know better, that ego is connected to you.  I’m not saying you have no idea what’s going on, I’m just saying that every time I’ve allowed my ego to run the show it hasn’t been a good idea because as much as the ego may think it knows better, ultimately it doesn’t.  The ego isn’t tapped into the same frequency as the universal mind so it can’t possibly know everything.

When things are unknown they can leave you feeling vulnerable and a little scared of what’s to come as well as hesitant to take that step forward.  When I’ve had this feeling it’s been because I was on the verge of experiencing a major change and positive growth that I couldn’t have possibly foreseen.  Every time so far it has been a positive step forward for me so I’ve learned to recognize when that moment comes around that I definitely want to go in that direction, experience has taught me that.

I don’t mind constructive criticism, it helps me to learn and grow as an individual but I don’t usually welcome being told what to do.  Somewhere in my psyche I find that in those times I become resistant because I feel pressured to go in the direction that someone is advising me.  Now that person may not actually be pressuring me but I may be receiving it that way and reacting because of that sense.  Some people will actually go in an entirely different direction simply because someone is advising them one way and even if they know it’s the right way to go they go in another direction because they are so resistant to the direction and/or assistance.

Regardless of what reasoning you have behind it chances are your resistance is causing you more stress overall than if you were to just let go and let things happen as they are meant to.

Change overall is the universe’s way of transitioning us into the direction we are meant to go and when you ignore the signs and resist the change you are only causing yourself more difficulty and stress.  When you are resisting change, the universe sometimes responds with a jolt in the direction you’re supposed to be going so if your life suddenly changes I believe it’s because you’ve been ignoring the signs for so long that this is the only way the universe can alert you.  Sometimes this alert can cause you to experience hurt emotions and I don’t believe that this is any sort of payback or karma, it’s just that if you get too far off your path there’s only one way for the universe to get you back on it in time.

Be mindful, stay aware and tuned in to what’s going on around you, pay attention to your path, the signs and those in your life.  We are all here to bring meaning to each other’s lives, teach, learn and grow.  Let your desires help lead you to your passion and purpose, don’t be in too much of a rush, it will find you when the time is right.

I Appreciate It!

Be Thankful in All Things!

When you have appreciation for all things in your life I believe that creates a trickle effect and the positive occurrences continue throughout your day as your appreciation grows.

So you wake up a little late but luckily it’s a good hair day, the outfit you picked out feels perfectly comfortable and even though you didn’t have enough time to fix yourself a morning snack things are going good.  On your way to work every light is green so you arrive 10 minutes early and when you get there you find that your boss brought in coffee and muffins for everyone.  Perfect, morning snack problem solved!  I’ve had this kind of day and it’s only gotten better from there and I really do believe it’s because I am able to get so excited about the little things.  I’ve found that when I approach life from that mindset great things just keep happening.  Others have told me that I just have “good luck” and even though that is probably part of it I think the other part is the mindset.  It’s all in what you believe and how you perceive your life to be going.  I also believe I have “good luck” and that belief helps to create that good luck and keep it flowing (Law of Attraction).

Have you ever been driving down the road toward the green light and thinking it’s going to change and then it does, I know that’s a chance thing but I do think it’s also a belief thing, try saying out loud to the universe “thank you for not changing until I get through”.

Every time I’ve headed off to the grocery store, shopping mall or anywhere that requires parking I always head to the spots closest to the store and much to the chagrin of my passenger who says “it’s packed, you’re never going to find a spot up there” and I always respond “my parking spot is always at the front”, and it always goes just that way.  I will get there and the spot will be free or someone will just be pulling out and it’s not just because I’m lucky but because I’m already appreciating the universe for providing me with that great parking spot I’m envisioning.  I’ve been successful with this process even at Christmas (the busiest of seasons), the biggest part of it is living in appreciation and thanking the universe for these wonderful and lucky opportunities.

So I tried to explain this mindset to a friend who said, ok, I’ll try it, but I don’t think it’s going to change anything.  Right there!  That’s it!  You’ve just cut it off from having the chance to happen.  If you don’t honestly believe in the mindset and you’re already knocking it down with a “sure I’ll try it but I don’t believe it will work” then the universe will give you exactly what you believe!  Again, Law of Attraction.

I truly find excitement in the smallest things and I realize that finding a great parking spot or the perfect tasting coffee is so minimal and trivial but in reality if I can find excitement and appreciation in those then the bigger things will be that much better and I will be that much more excited and appreciative.  The outcomes for these types of positive experiences I’ve had, big or small, have taught me that this mindset definitely works.

Along with developing and believing wholeheartedly in this mindset, you must also believe it in your subconscious and it has to feel natural.  An example is the friend I tried to explain the mindset to above, the reason it was so difficult to accept is because changing the belief system that way didn’t at all feel natural.  I really wish I had a strategy I could recommend that would work for making this kind of adjustment to your belief system and having it feel natural.  There was no adjustment for me to make as I’ve always viewed things from this perspective and mindset so natural is how it has always felt.

I do know that when it comes to anything in your life and making changes it all starts with you:

–          you really have to want it

–          you really have to believe in yourself

–          live in appreciation

When you have all of these beliefs you can do anything you want to!

Thoughts for Thanksgiving

Thanks and Gratitude

As we all celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada or look forward to Thanksgiving in the U.S. I wanted to acknowledge the many things in my life with honor, thanks and gratitude:

Thank-You for my Beautiful Daughter and Family:

Even though we don’t all always agree for short or even too long of periods at times, I do remember and recognize whether we have agreed or not that there are some very good moments I will always cherish and appreciate.  Everything in our lives happens for a reason, some of our family members are meant to love us, challenge us and/or help us to grow.  There is a specific purpose for their placement in our lives whether we want to acknowledge it or resist it will determine what we are blessed to learn.  I have spent time resisting (and by that I mean being emotionally stubborn) only to discover that once I let things be as they are (give up the fight to be right, whether I was right or not) it became significantly easier on my heart and spirit.

Thank-You for my Good Health:

I have the physical capabilities to take on any task or challenge that I wish to like participating in sports or parking my car at the furthest area of a parking lot because I am more than capable to walk the distance to the door without getting tired, having trouble breathing or experiencing pain.  I do not have any visual impairments or neurological delays that could inhibit me in any way.  Even though we see our abilities as being a part of our everyday lives it’s important to acknowledge and appreciate that things could be much different and much more challenging and honor those that power through them with true determination and courage.

Thank-You for my Irreplaceable Friends:

Friendship is one relationship that transcends barriers on so many levels, I think especially so for women, because our most meaningful connections are preferred to be at a very deep level and we are innately more tuned to that desire.  I have a select few of friends that are easily the most invaluable because like family, they can also love, challenge and help us to grow but from a different perspective.  Unlike family that are born or married within the lineage, friends are drawn to each other because of similarities in our faith, hopes and desires in life.

Thanks You for my Opportunities:

I have had so many great opportunities so far and I know that there are many more to come.  Opportunities haven’t always come in the form I have expected but luckily I’ve had fantastic signs and in the last 10 years I’ve been blessed to learn how to recognize them for what they are.  It wasn’t always easy for me to recognize even the most obvious sign but once I tuned into my inner spirit (my gut instinct) and starting listening and allowing it to guide me the signs became more abundant and easier to read.

I have had a lot of changes through the last 15 years, some have been difficult, some have been easy, but all have been necessary.  Regardless of whether they were desired or not I am thankful that they came at all and recognize that in the bigger picture they serve a purpose.  Even if I don’t see or understand what that purpose may be in the now, I have faith that eventually the wisdom will come whether it is through my Family, my Health, my Friends, or my Opportunities.

Putting On Your Poker Face

Or Calling Your Own Bluff?

We all have our own ideas when it comes to our expectations in all areas of our lives.  I know I’ve made decisions (good and bad) based on my own expectations of others and emotional feelings but the bigger questions to ask myself are:

  1. Do I hold myself to that same level of expectation?
  2. If I fail to meet that expection do I hold myself accountable or do I justify it?
  3. Am I open and willing to honestly find resolution or peace?

I think that only those closely involved in my life could answer the first question for me, I believe I do, but then again I’m not on the other side of that expectation.

I do tend to disect situations and events down to the very last detail, that is just who I am.  When it comes to evaluating things I don’t like to leave any question unanswered, or any theory unexplored, which can at times lead to frustration for those participating in the conversation of evaluation.

I have gone down the road of justifying a bad decision, one of the most significant reasons being that I had been too stubborn to find a middle ground and the other because the emotional hurt felt like it was at such a high level that finding middle ground seemed near impossible.  I don’t think anyone is mistake free, I know I’m not, but self-reflection in this area is a great opportunity to learn the capacity of your own character and integrity.  To find out what you are really made of and whether or not you have the courage to look in the mirror and take ownership for how you’ve done so far.

In failing to meet that same expectation and going down the road of justifying it, the opportunity to turn it around and make it positive lies within acknowledging your own part and sincerely trying to find resolution or peace.  How each individual finds their resolution or peace will be a process that is unique only to them but I think the main thing, is to be true to who you are deep down and know that any action conflicting with that is ultimately harmful to you the most.  I believe that if you go against the grain of your own spirit it will be such an inner conflict that problems will arise, whether that manifests itself physically, emotionally or both.

I can’t say that all physical issues “I don’t have the credentials”, but I believe that most arise because somewhere within we are causing ourselves an emotional distress that creates the physical manifestation in our health.  This does not mean that once you dissolve the emotional distress that the physical issue will go away, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t.  I think that depends on how far along the physical issue has progressed.  Once an emotional issue manifests to physical in your body it may take a lot longer to make it go away.  The time it has taken to manifest physically and how long it has carried out for will determine how far the roots of it extend and it may take A LOT of hard work to try to overcome it.

In my case the physical health issue I had experienced, which was created from an emotional issue, manifested in the form of stress, and stress can cause a variety of mock symptoms for various health issues, and luckily mine disappeared when I resolved the stress.

Regardless of how emotional or physical issues manifest within us self-reflection is always a positive step in the right direction, which may turn out to be the first step in changing your well-being for the better.  When you are willing to look in the mirror and measure your progress by the same level of expectation that you have of others you are choosing to build yourself positively.

Sometimes our own expectations of resolution cannot be found, sometimes the olive branch extended is not accepted, sometimes bridges burned cannot be repaired or reconstructed, sometimes the resolution is accepting the lesson, learning from it for the future and moving forward.

I do believe that there isn’t an issue out there that can’t be resolved, however it does take a significant amount of honesty, sincerity and willingness to find resolution.  Things may not ever be the same but they could end up being better, anything is possible!

Changing Your Thoughts

Changes Your Reality

One of my favorite quotes was said by Wayne Dyer:

When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”     –  Wayne Dyer

I’ve actually tried this and it really worked, the circumstance I was applying it to was at my workplace.  It wasn’t that I had a huge dilemma with a co-worker we just kind of rubbed each other the wrong way.  Much time has passed since changing how I was looking at things with this particular situation and I’ve come to realize that maybe the reason for my co-workers disassociation was caused by the disassociation I was projecting.  Oddly enough now, this co-worker is someone I really like, admire and respect and all it took was to change that around was to change how I was looking at things.

When you first try this it may feel odd ( I think mostly because it takes more energy to resist the natural flow ) but you will find that whatever you are projecting outward is what you will receive back so it makes sense that if you change that projection then what you get back will also change.

What I have to throw into the mix this week is  – “what if I am emotionally connected to the circumstance, how do I then change how I am looking at it?”

When I am emotionally connected to a situation it can be very difficult to shift my thinking because it’s clouded by the emotional attachment.   The only way I can think of is to take away the emotion factor by disconnecting at the source, and this is not easy to do and I’m not so sure that is something I am able to do or if it’s the right thing to do.  It sounds simple in theory but when you get right down to it, it’s a lot harder to take on.  The way we really connect with others is emotionally based and if you’re already connected then how do you disconnect.  We aren’t robots, we don’t have switches we flip, we are energetic beings that sense and feel but if a circumstance is causing you stress or hurts you emotionally then removing yourself from it is the only solution.

My usual approach to any dilemma is to weigh out my options, kind of a like a pros and cons list.  This gives me a visual and when I write things out it makes it easier for me to come up with the best solution or plan.  This is an ongoing process for me, I’m not sure that I’ve found the best solution yet for myself or for anyone facing this dilemma.

The only solution I have is when a situation or circumstance is causing you stress or hurt then sometimes the answers are to look within.  As in the circumstance above, I was initially causing the discrepancy I was having and had I realized that sooner I would have changed my thinking around much earlier and saved myself the discomfort.  What I know now is that when I do have any issues, I start with me.

If you need to search further then maybe the answers can be found by talking things over with a close friend who can help you to find the answers you need individually.  Sometimes in doing that you will find the answers much easier than trying to figure it out on your own.

I’m going to leave you with Wayne Dyer’s daily affirmation which is a very significant ending to this blog.

Monitor Your Inner Dialogue

Recognize that what you think about, expands. Monitor your inner dialogue, and match your thoughts to what you want and what you intend to create.

Better Days Ahead

Healing to Move Forward

Healing within to move forward can be quite a challenge at times, it requires letting go of the past hurts and that takes a great deal of inner strength and discipline.

Sometimes it can feel almost impossible to let go of the hurt, especially if those feelings run deep but it is so important.  If you keep any hurt in your life on a daily basis it can potentially take over your life.  The longer you feed this emotion the more it will grow and sometimes it grows to  insurmountable and overwhelming proportions.

I myself have had this experience and when I was hurting so profoundly I found that I could hold onto and recount every detail and connective emotion exactly as if it had just happened.

Every time you recount an experience it’s as if you are re-living it and that is what helps the seed of resentment take root.

  1. The first part of the process is acknowledgement, taking ownership of the part you play in harboring this hurt.
  2. Next is deciding to no longer allow it to have any power over your life, physically or emotionally.
  3. After you have truly embraced the first two steps you will find that moving forward happens so naturally and easily.

It will leave you wondering why you had held onto it for so long when it feels so good to finally let it go.  The feelings of letting go of such hurts has been described as a feeling of spiritual healing and like a weight instantly being lifted off.

The healing phase then starts and as every day passes you will find that you get further and further away from the hurt.   I found that after a period of time, that some of those details that I clung to so tightly were gone and I couldn’t recount at all anymore.  Letting go allows you to say this will no longer control or harm my life.

When you acknowledge, decide and let go you are not saying it’s ok that someone has hurt you, you are saying I’m allowing myself to heal and feel whole again.

Stay the Course!

New Years Resolutions – Part 2

In keeping with my last week’s blog I wanted to remind and inspire everyone to stay the course with their resolutions.  We are nearing the end of the first week of 2012, don’t let the wind out of your sails.

Keep striving to attain your desires for this exciting new year, I have a very good feeling that it is going to be a prosperous and happy 2012 for all and what better way to celebrate that than by sticking to your resolutions and goals you’ve set out for yourself.  Keep your eye on the Prize!

Stay charged up and keep reinforcing all the plans you have made for this new year.  Review your resolutions, if you feel so inspired, maybe add to them.  It’s all about the magic in the air at this time, it’s yours to utilize and to achieve your innermost desires and dreams.

The place where you get to shine, not only by doing something that serves a greater purpose but also because you are doing something that infinitely makes you shine from within.

Whatever it takes to keep you on the road of inspiration, use it now.  Find whatever motivation you need to attain your place in this world, the place that you feel the most content and balanced.

Seek inspiration in all those that inspire you, whether that is your family, your friends, or just people you admire, take a page out of their book and apply it to your life.

When you know better, you do better – Maya Angelou

Make this year be a year of change, difference and things you’ve never thought you could achieve come true.  Let go of all that no longer serves you whether that is an outdated way of thinking, outdated expectations, or an emotion that has carried you for too long.

It’s time to feel better, do better and live better!

Dream Soup for the Soul

Your deepest desires and dreams are what feed your soul. Don’t ever give up on trying to achieve something because of a self-imposed limitation or the limitations imposed by others. There is no shortage of desires, but there is a shortage of people with the determination to achieve them.

The only one who can hold you back is You!

Every person out there who has achieved their dreams always shares the same messages:

  1. Don’t give up!
  2. If someone had told me a couple of years ago that I would be here, I would have never believed it.

My theory is that it’s half fear (not believing in yourself) and half lack of faith (not believing in the higher power of the universe). Everything we do ties into the LOA ( Law of Attraction ); we are actually always operating in that state of being. The question is whether you want to make it work for you or against you. When we are fearful of the prospect of change or failing, this will have the LOA operating against us because what you are giving your most energy to will increase. When we are faithful to our hearts’ desires and positive thoughts are abundant, then the LOA operates with us and increases that energy.

My biggest moments of fear have also been my greatest moments of positive change. Change that has taken me into a much more beneficial area of life then I could have ever predicted or imagined. Every time something great has happened for me has been when I have let go of the reigns and believed. It’s difficult to do and sometimes scary, but I can honestly say I have never been disappointed, and I’m always happily surprised. It actually takes more energy to resist than to go along with destiny. Everything always works out as it is supposed to. Why make it difficult for yourself along the way?

I could have easily given up so many times and blamed circumstance, timing, etc. but my will (maybe I mean stubbornness) is far stronger than my fear.

I fully believe that we all can do anything we need to or desire to, against the odds that others may throw at us or our own.  We all have a strength within us to achieve. Just tap into it, don’t let anyone ever discourage you, and don’t accept anything less than you deserve.

Truly Believe in yourself!  You won’t be disappointed.
